Sean Connelly

Sean Connelly (b. 1984, Pacific Islander American, Ilocano) is a Honolulu-born artist and designer working across architecture, sculpture, film, and cartography. Their practice uncovers overlooked histories and ecologies, critiquing structures of oppression in daily built environments. Engaged within a larger community social practice, Sean’s work supports the transformation of oceanic intellect to support Native culture, material practice, water rights, food sovereignty, and land justice. By reimagining present realities with speculative histories for decolonial futures, Sean’s work promotes healing, wellbeing, and belonging. Sean’s scholarly and activist-driven narratives reflect the vibrant contributions of communities, advocating for social justice and ecological balance in the Pacific and beyond. Sean is the Founder and Director of the After Oceanic Built Environments Lab, and the co-founder of ‘ĀINAVIS, and the grassroots nonprofit Hawai’i Nonlinear.
