WATCH: The Laundromat Project asks “can social change start at your local laundromat?”

Risë Wilson

New York, NY

Risë Wilson is the founder of the nonprofit Laundromat Project, which utilizes New York City laundromats as makeshift galleries for work by local artists. She is currently the director of philanthropy at the Rauschenberg Foundation.

WHY WE LOVE RISE WILSON:

  • Risë re-designed laundromats throughout New York City as arts and community gathering spaces, founding one of our favorite organizations
  • In 2004, the Echoing Green Foundation named Risë one of “The World’s Best Emerging Social Entrepreneurs”
  • In addition to her many other roles, she also offers her expertise as a consultant to other non-profits and teaches at the Parsons School of Design, helping product-design students apply their talents to the public sphere
